Gold River Streamkeepers Active Members

Jane Bogie

Jane Bogie is an active member of the society. She has taken the Streamkeepers course. Jane likes to say that the bug portion   of the course is her favourite. Jane participates in the Dunlop Creek Coho Indicator fence and salmon enumeration projects every year. Jane is also involved in the Big Bend Creek restoration project as it evolves throught the various stages.

When she is not volunteering she makes fishing plugs and spoons for Tomic Lures locally in Gold River. Jane and her husband  Randy (also a member) like to spend quality time at their float cabin in Nootka Sound when the weather permits.

Kevin Dello

Kevin Dello is a director and founding member and has completed the streamkeepers course. Kevin is a dedicated family man who’s idea of helping the spawning salmon in Big Bend creek by mitigating the barrier (culvert) to the top section of the creek, started our Big Bend Creek Project. Now in it’s third stage of progress!

Kevin also walks and collects data on spawning salmon in Big Bend creek every fall. Every spring Kevin helps to install the Dunlop Creek Coho indicator fence and collect fry/smolt counts.  Kevin volunteers for many other organizations in Nootka Sound and is employed by Fisheries and Oceans part time in the spring and fall. In the winter time Kevin keeps our highways clear from ice and snow.

Ken Smith  Ken Smith is an active member and the president of our society.  Ken has taken the streamkeepers course. Ken has coordinated the funding and installation of signs on the local roads identifying fish bearing streams in Gold River. Ken also volunteers his time at the Dunlop Creek Coho Indicator Fence and has participated in the Big Bend Creek Restoration Projects. Ken is retired or so he thinks and spends a lot of time with his wife Wendy doing what they love to do. Both of them have planted trees along side of Big Bend Creek as part of the riparian stage of the project.

Patrick Watson  Pat Watson is an active member and director of the society. He has taken the streamkeepers course. Pat is our go to man when building or repairing the Dunlop Creek Coho Indicator fence. In fact, Pat built most of the trail leading to the fence on his own. He has also volunteered his time on the Big Bend Creek Projects, Conuma River Hydrology Assessment, Hutchinson Creek Urban Stream Habitat Assessment Project, Hutchinson Creek Side Channel, and many more others.
