Dunlop Creek Coho Indicator Fence
Dunlop Creek is a small creek that runs into Muchalat Lake very close to the mouth of the Muchalat River about 25 km north of Gold River.
It is a valuable resource for raising Coho Salmon that eventually find their way into Nootka Sound via the Muchalat River and Gold River.
Every year the Gold River Streamkeepers Society in partnership with the Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nations and Fisheries and Oceans Canada set up a wooden fish counting fence and collect data on numbers, lengths and weights of Coho Smolts/Fry that are in the system.
Other species counted are Cutthroat Trout, Lampreys, Steelhead and Sculpins.
