Inactive Members of the Gold River Streamkeepers Society

streamkeeper Randy Bogie Randy has taken the streamkeepers course. Randy along with his wife Jane (also a member) annually walk the local streams counting salmon spawners. Randy also is involved in our Dunlop Creek Coho Indicator fence project every spring. Randy puts in long hours for Western Forest Products and enjoys fishing during the summer months

streamkeeper Myles Calen Myles has taken the streamkeepers course. Myles was involved in our Big Bend Creek and Elk River Riparian projects. He was also part of our stewardship education classes at the local high school. Myles works for Grieg Seafoods.

streamkeeper Darrel Glass Darrel Glass is a founding member and has completed the streamkeepers course. Darrel also is a busy man and volunteers with us when he can. Darrel has participated in many of our projects such as Coho indicator fence, Hutchinson Creek side channel, salmon enumeration, and storm drain marking to name a few. Darrel works hard at many jobs in his community including carpet cleaning, roofing, and labourer. His wood carving skills have been sought after for creating awards being presented by us to deserving parties.

streamkeeper Jim Mitchell Jim Mitchell is one of our founding members and by far the most accomplished of our members in regards to getting things done for the society. Jim is a past president and responsible for starting the stewardship education classes, coordinating the installation of the Dunlop Creek Coho Indicator Fence, leading the storm drain marking program, Big Bend Creek project funding, just to name a few. Jim has completed the streamkeepers course instructed by Dave Clough.

Jim is a truck driver by occupation, but a tool and die maker by trade. Jim was our local village counciller from 2001-2005 before stepping down. Jim ran for the Federal Liberal candidate for the North Island. Unfortunately for Jim and also all of us he didn’t win the seat. However, it wasn’t because of a lack of talent or polictical skills. Jim has had to go away to find work like so many talented residents of Gold River, but still provides support when he can.

Just recently (2006) Jim shared the West Coast Vancouver Island Salmon Stewardship Award with Paul Smith, given out by the Nuu-Chah-Nulthaht West Coast Vancouver Island Aquatic Management Board (NCN/WCVIAMB) in recognition of excellence in stewardship activities benefitting Wild Pacific Salmon.

streamkeeper Chelsey Pimlott Chelsey Pimlott has taken the streamkeepers course. Every spring Chelsey and her father Jim participate in the Dunlop Creek Coho Indicator fence project and she has participated in our Elk River Riparian and Big Bend Creek Riparian projects. Chelsey was part of our stewardship education program at the local high school.

streamkeeper Jenny Riddell Jenny has taken the streamkeepers course. Jenny was part of our Big Bend Creek and Elk River Riparian projects. Jenny also participated in our stewardship education classes at the local high school.
